1st annual Derringers Shakedown Run

We are headed north to Interlochen, MI. Upon our arrival we will drink beer and party all weekend. We are staying at a motorcycle only campground called Cycle-Moore. http://www.cycle-moore.com/. We plan on riding to the Mackinac bridge, Sleeping bear dunes and probably Traverse City. I'm sure one of us will be arrested or shot during our excursion. Follow this blog for the outcome.

cold as a witches tittie!

Went riding today with Sean. Hooked up with brian at meijer and got to check out his new bike. Yamaha xj650 with a sweet as fuck metal flake paint job. Went to Walgreens to pickup a pair of tights to make another make shifter air filter,im going to call and find out if the goodson peeps have gotten replacement filters in stock yet. I have gone through 2 pairs of ladies tights using them as a filter hah. So then we met up with bones at his parents and went for a ride out to St Joe,which was nice but a little chilly. Had a nice chinese dinner and started the journey home. I dont think i have ever been so fucking cold,i couldn't even feel my knee caps! so anyways a couple things i noticed on the ride,i need to get a smaller oil tank mine is way too wide. I need to finish the new seat pan,my temporary seat sucks it big time. Also my neck bearings are a tad loose

next project...shop truck!

Is a bike ever done?

Well, bones posted some pictures of my bike torn down and put back together.I set out to fix a broken axle plate and paint the frame.I added ont he fab kevin old school brake kit, which looks and works nice.I think the caliper ont he kit is a GSXR rear 2 piston. The plan was to paint the frame silver flake, but i ran out of money because i bought an Arlen Ness springer at a swap meet. I need to go through that yet before i can put it on,but it should be on there soon. I have a seat pan thats 3/4 finished that will go on it as i get done and send it out for some nice tuck in roll work,of course it is a rigid mounted seat.Later this week i am going to make up some mounting brackets for the alphabet hi/lo megaphones and put those on also.I don't think that my bike will ever be done!

Time for a make over

bike lift

Last night we made a bike table...and by "we" i mean Barney and Andrew while Bodnar and i drank some drinks. The hunk of wood turned out awesome. Shit is solid as a turd out of anyones ass but Bodnar's, and it was all for under 100 dollars!

Off with her head.

I will be short and to the point. Jennifer Granholm sucks. You may already know that the Michigan helmet law is back up for review (so to speak). You might also know that Granholm will not sign it again as well. Why the fuck not!?! Michigan is the only great lake state with a fully restricted helmet law which keeps tourist tax dollars out of our state. Thanks again governor for officially giving the state of Michigan the worst economy in the Union.

harley davidson and the AMF mistakes.

I love my ironhead, don't get me wrong. I just recently ran into an issue that was not so fun to fix. My primary drain plug had stripped and would just spin in the hole, leaking the whole time. Although I don't mind small leaks on my bike, this one was spraying all over my back tire. Anyways, if I were an engineer I would have figured out some way to place this drain plug in the cover of the primary. For those of you familiar, the inner primary case is cast right into the engine cases. I purchased an oversized tap and bolt kit from Diggers Speed Shop and went to work. First of all, without a lift this job was next to impossible. Drilling and tapping a hole that could end up costing you hundreds of dollars is pretty stressful. After what seemed to be hours of trying to tap this thing straight I was done. The threads looked good and I was convinced I was in business. I buttoned up everything and put the plug back in. Now for the moment of truth, adding the fluid. NO LEAKS! I took it for a ride and had a few drinks at the bar. When I came back out to ride home guess what I saw. A huge fucking puddle of primary fluid. This drain plug kit did not come with a copper washer or O-ring to help seal and the pipe dope I put on the threads wasn't doing the trick. Next thing I find out it's pretty impossible to find a hardware store that sells copper sealing washers. So I picked up a few O-rings and I'm hoping it will fix my problem. Wish me luck! the whole point I am trying to make is, why would you put the drain plug in the cast cases? I would much rather replace a primary cover than new engine cases. Just sayin'.
